PHARMACEUTICAL PROPERTIES
Colistin is an antibiotic of the polypeptide family with great bactericidal activity on gram negative germs, notably colibacilli and salmonella. Its particular mode of action results in the disorganization of the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane by an effect similar to that of a detergent. This effect works on germs in multiplication as well as in resting state. This mode of action greatly reduces the emergence of resistance to this antibiotic. Colistin also works by inactivating bacterial endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides). Colistin is very quickly absorbed by the IM and SC routes. Its tissue diffusion and elimination are also rapid. Colistin is eliminated mainly in the active form by the renal route (parenteral route) or by the faecal route (oral route). The duration of treatment is quite short due to its renal toxicity.

Calves for slaughter and Poultry.
INDICATIONS
Treatment of infections with germs sensitive to colistin in particular: Septicemic enteritis of young people, colibacillary septicemia, infectious polyarthritis.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
Colista injection is used intramuscularly at the Dose: 25,000 IU / kg bodyweight, i.e. 0.5 ml / 10 kg bodyweight, twice a day at 12 h interval, for 3 consecutive days.
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND INTERACTIONS
Do not use in patients with renal impairment. Do not use in laying hens whose eggs are intended for human consumption.
SIDE EFFECTS
If the doses and contraindications are respected, no side effects are observed in the target species.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
- Respect the dosages.
- People with known hypersensitivity to polymyxins should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product.
- In the event of accidental projection in the eyes, rinse abundantly with water, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or the label to the physician. - Wash hands after use.
